What Belém offers
The Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, MAAT and the Berardo collection, the riverside promenade, and the original Pastéis de Belém bakery. Evenings are calm; most visitors leave by 18:00.
Getting to the centre
- Tram 15E from Belém to Praça da Figueira: 25–35 minutes.
- Train from Belém station to Cais do Sodré: 8 minutes, every 15–20 minutes.
- Bike or e-scooter along the flat riverside path: 25 minutes to Cais do Sodré.
Who it suits
Families, museum-focused travellers, runners and cyclists, and longer stays where a bit of distance from the crowds is welcome.
Practical notes
Supermarkets and everyday shops are along Rua de Belém and around the station. Restaurants near the monuments are tourist-priced; walk two streets inland for better value.
